Costs / Budget notes

What will the whole plan cost?

Keep the drug price, the visit fee and the insurance answer in separate notes. Then add them up.

What might I pay?

Separate the medicine price from the total cost of care. A posted drug price alone will not answer what the whole plan costs.

Medicine / Cash offers

As of September 2026, drug companies advertised many cash prices for approved weight and diabetes medicines at around $149–$499 per month; some prices were higher.

These offers are for paying for the medicine yourself. The product, its strength (the amount of drug in each pill or shot) and the refill rules affect the price.

Ask the pharmacy whether it offers that price for your prescription.

As of September 2026, some online services charged a monthly fee with medicine billed separately.

Ask and note

What is the total after any first-month offer ends, including visits, medicine, tests and shipping?

Will insurance pay?

A formulary lists the medicines covered by an insurance plan.

Prior authorization means the plan must agree to pay before the medicine is filled.

As of September 2026, a Medicare plan may cover a weight-loss medicine for another approved use, but coverage still depends on the plan’s rules.

Tell your insurance plan the exact medicine name and if it comes as a pill or shot. Explain why it was prescribed. Ask what the plan pays and what you would pay.

Ask and note

Is this exact product covered for this reason, and does it need the plan’s approval first?

Can Medicare help with weight care?

GLP-1 is a signal in the body that relates to appetite and blood sugar; some medicines copy the effects of that signal.

Medicare / Temporary program

For eligible patients, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge’s September 2026 terms put a month’s supply at $50 for certain medicines used for weight loss.

The September 2026 listing gives two program dates: July 1, 2026, to begin and December 31, 2027, to finish. Ask Medicare to confirm the dates before relying on the offer.

As of September 2026, whether you can use the program depends on your Medicare plan, weight and health conditions. You need a prescription and approval from the program before it pays.

As of September 2026, the Bridge is not for people with type 2 diabetes. For diabetes care, ask your regular Medicare drug plan about coverage.

Medicare drug plans have a yearly limit on the costs you pay yourself for covered medicines. As of September 2026, the Bridge’s $50 payment does not help you reach that limit. You also cannot add a discount coupon to a Bridge payment.

What belongs in a written quote?

Ask for the written total, the refill price and the cancellation terms. Keep a copy rather than relying on a headline offer.

The September 2026 terms for many cash offers and savings cards gave December 31, 2026, as their end date.

An offer ending then calls for a fresh quote; the date alone cannot tell us the next price.

Ask and note

If I stop the service, what charges remain and what happens to follow-up care?
