Care checks / Question notes

What does getting care involve?

Begin with who will check your health, what the visit can cover and which pharmacy will provide the medicine.

Can a visit happen online?

Online care is called telehealth. The health professional who checks your health is called a clinician.

A prescription is a medicine order written by someone with permission to prescribe.

Arizona permits some prescriptions following an online exam, as of October 3, 2026. The clinician still has to examine you properly and follow the rules for the medicine.

As of October 3, 2026, the clinician must decide whether online care fits your health problem. They must choose a way to check your health that works for the care you need.

Ask and note

What can you check during this visit, and what needs a test or a visit in person?

How do I check the person?

A license is the state’s permission to practice that kind of care.

Clinicians with licenses from other states may qualify to register with an Arizona board for online care here, as of October 3, 2026. This is called telehealth registration. They need a license with no practice limits. They must meet rules about past license penalties, carry insurance for claims of harm and follow Arizona law.

Ask for the clinician’s full name, license type, license number and the state that issued it. For online care, ask for any Arizona telehealth registration number too. Ask the Arizona board to confirm how this person is allowed to treat you here. Keep its answer with your notes.

  • Medical doctor — MDArizona’s Medical Board lets you check an MD’s license and read public decisions about it, including any license penalties.
  • Osteopathic doctor — DODOs are doctors licensed through Arizona’s separate osteopathic board, which has its own doctor search.
  • Nurse practitionerFor nurse practitioners, Arizona’s Nursing Board provides links to verify both a nursing license and the certificate for the higher level of nursing care.
  • Physician assistant — PAArizona’s Physician Assistant Board provides a search for PA licenses.

What about the pharmacy?

Start with the pharmacy’s actual name, rather than the name on the care website.

A pharmacy permit is the state’s permission for a pharmacy to operate.

As of October 3, 2026, Arizona requires pharmacy permits and separate pharmacist licenses; those are different records.

To ship medicine into Arizona from another state, a pharmacy needs an Arizona permit as of October 3, 2026. A current pharmacy permit or similar permission from the state where the pharmacy is based is also required.

Ask the Arizona Pharmacy Board how to verify the permit. Ask the pharmacy who can answer questions about the medicine.

Ask and note

Which pharmacy will fill this, and what exact name is its Arizona permit under?

What can I bring to the visit?

Bring a list of medicines and supplements, your health questions and the goal you want to discuss. Leave space to write the answers.

Arizona generally requires a person’s consent for telehealth as of October 3, 2026. Consent is agreement to care once the care has been explained.

A list of questions about your health can help start the conversation. Ask how you can add details, ask a question or speak with the clinician after the visit.

As of September 2026, national medical-board guidance says a fixed list of online questions is not enough on its own to decide on treatment. The clinician must be able to ask more questions and get enough details to provide care.

Ask and note

Who answers follow-up questions, and how do I reach them?
